The winged horse Pegasus is the embodiment of imagination and poetic vision. In mythology, Pegasus is the offspring of Poseidon (Neptune) and the Gorgon Medusa, born from her blood when she was slain by Perseus.  The Hippocrene fountain, sacred to the Muses, which inspires poetry in all who drank from it, sprang from the stamp of Pegasus' hoof.

Carrying Zeus' thunderbolts, Pegasus soared high above earthly mortals.
